Let’s not forget, Dude, let’s *not* forget that Bob Dylan, to whom the Dude is listening while ‘on her rug’, wrote a song, ‘Fourth Time Around’, partly inspired, ‘allegedly’, by Norwegian Wood. Which contains the lyric ‘that picture of you in your wheelchair that leaned up against/her Jamaican rum’. Clearly a reference to the Big Lebowski’s preferred mode of conveyance. And careful, there’s a beverage here. ‘Fourth Time Around’ is on the same album as ‘Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands’, which contains the following lyric:

“With your childhood flames on your midnight rug,
And your Spanish manners and your mother’s drugs,
And your cowboy mouth and your curfew plugs,
Who among them do you think could resist you?”

The rug is obvious.
‘And your Spanish manners’: parla usted ingles?
‘And your cowboy mouth’: the Stranger, clearly.
‘your curfew plugs’: shomer shabbos.
